Wikki Tourists and Kano Pillars secured commendable results in their
Match Day 26 games in the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, on
Sunday.
Pillars recorded the biggest win of the weekend; thrashing Lobi Stars
3-0 in Kano while Wikki Tourists also did their title aspirations a lot
of good forcing Warri Wolves to a 1-1 draw at the Warri City Stadium on
Sunday.
With the vital away point, Wikki Tourists are back at the top of the
NPFL log as Coach Abdul Maikaba’s men did just enough to reclaim the
number one position from fellow title contenders, Enugu Rangers.
At the moment, Wikki are tied on 43 points with Rangers with 25 games
played. But the Bauchi State team have a slight advantage with their
better goals’ difference.
Pillars on their part were ruthless against Lobi Stars on Sunday as
they thrashed the Markurdi-based side 3-0 at the Sani Abacha Stadium in
Kano.
Adamu Mohammed set the tone; scoring inside the first minute before the Lobi defence settled down.
Pillars doubled their lead just after the half-hour mark when Captain
Rabiu Ali scored from the spot after Amos Gyang was felled in the Lobi
box for a penalty.
Pillars’ victory was sealed when Jamiu Alimi scored the third goal of the encounter after combining with Gambo Mohammed.
With this win Pillars now have 39 points having played 25 games.
In other fixtures, FC Ifeanyi Ubah and Akwa United also secured away
points having recorded 1-1 draws against Ikorodu United and Plateau
United respectively.
Shooting Stars survived a scare as they fought from a goal down to
defeat visiting Nasarawa United 2-1 in Ibadan while Rivers United edged
