In theory, Edinson Cavani should be a happy fella at PSG
right now. The departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Manchester United
means Cavani by default will spearhead the PSG attacking lineup for the
upcoming 2016/17 season. He has always demanded the role of a central
striker and now will finally get the chance to show his true potential
playing in his favoured position.
Heck, no. The player still aspires to leave the club (is he getting
bored with PSG’s one-sided dominance in Ligue 1?) and several sources
have confirmed to French media outlet Le 10 Sport that the player wishes to leave the French champions in order to explore a new adventure.
In an exclusive report from the French publication, they claim Premier League giants Chelsea have reignited their interest in Cavani. The Blues have been frequently linked with a move for Cavani (a few years back a swap deal involving Eden Hazard being mooted
as well) and there hasn’t been any single transfer window in the past
2-3 years when his name didn’t pop up in the press linking with the top
Premier League clubs.
The Londoners have reportedly submitted a €50m offer for the
29-year-old Uruguayan. No matter how good a player he is, I think that’s
a fair deal, keeping his age in mind. Antonio Conte, the new Chelsea
manager, is a keen admirer of Cavani’s talents and wants to bring him to
the Bridge. PSG have not refused to sell the player but they are demanding an absurd €80m transfer fee for the former Napoli striker.
Chelsea have recently rejected a formal move from Atletico Madrid for
Diego Costa with the club stating they have no intentions to part ways
with their first choice striker. In that case, a move for Cavani doesn’t
make sense, especially after Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi being
signed earlier this month.
