Wikki Tourist of Bauchi missed a chance to extend their lead at the
summit of the Nigeria Professional Football League table as they were
forced to a goalless draw by second- placed Enugu Rangers on Sunday.
Many had predicted a fierce contest in the top-of-the table clash and
that was the case at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi as
both teams failed to register any goal for their efforts.
Despite the stalemate, Wikki still enjoy a two-point gap as their
closest rivals Rangers are on 42 points; but they would have been a lot
happier had they won in front of their fans to extend their lead at the
top to five points.
Elsewhere, the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Football Club
emerged winners of the Lagos derby in the NPFL on Sunday as they beat
relegation-haunted Ikorodu United Football Club 3-1 at the Agege
Stadium.
The Olukoya Boys who had registered a draw in the reverse fixture
played at the Onikan Stadium earlier in the season enjoyed the full
complement of their fans who were given a waiver from the LMC to enjoy
the Lagos derby despite the ban on the venue for the next three games.
Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, was one of the dignitaries at
the stadium on Sunday with the duo of NFF 1st Vice President Seyi
Akinwumi as well as Deji Tinubu, the Lagos State Sports commission boss
also in the stands to enjoy the game.
In Nnewi, big spenders FC Ifeanyi Ubah were made to look ordinary as
Sunshine Stars forced them to a goalless draw while it was worse for
Abia Warriors who suffered a shock 0-1 home defeat against Plateau
United.
After the disappointment of back-to-back losses in the CAF Champions
League, Enyimba had something to cheer on Sunday; beating El-Kanemi
Warriors 2-0.
Niger Tornadoes and Lobi Stars both enjoyed 2-0 victories over Warri Wolves and Heartland FC respectively
