Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has completed his second major summer signing after capturing Nolito from Celta Vigo.
The Spanish international was part of Vicente Del Bosque’s squad at
Euro 2016 this summer, having earned his spot following a fine season
with Celta.
Having scored 12 goals and provided seven assists in 29 La Liga
appearances last season, he’ll be desperate to now repay the faith shown
in him from Guardiola in the biggest test of his career thus far after
penning a four-year deal.
City are set to pay £13.8m to sign the winger after activating the
release clause in his contract, and it marks a reunion with his former
boss after he gave him his debut as a Barcelona ‘B’ player before he
later moved on to Benfica.
“I’ll try to bring as much as I possibly can,” he told the club’s official website.
“I’ll do everything that the manager asks of me, try my absolute best
and do everything I can to try to repeat the form I’ve shown throughout
my career at various clubs.
“It’s just about trying to play my normal game and let’s hope that I can help Manchester City to win games.
“I think that Pep Guardiola is one of the best managers in the world.
He knows a lot about the game and he’s going to help me progress as a
player and I’m sure he’ll get the best out of me.”
Nolito will wear the No.9 shirt this season and in turn will be under
pressure to deliver in the final third of City this season. He follows
midfielder Ilkay Gundogan through the entrance at the Etihad Stadium,
after the German international completed his move to Manchester from
Borussia Dortmund earlier this month.
Guardiola is evidently busy bringing in players that fit his system
and style of play, and he will hope that his first two signings can play
influential roles in his first year in England.
